Wanna See A Tesla Dance?

July 28, 2018 By Lodge

So one night I got a pretty cool surprise for a car enthusiast. It started when a Tesla pulled in at the lobby to check in. From afar I thought it was a new model 3, so went to check it out. It turned out to be an “X” (model X: AWD SUV/crossover), but we hadn’t yet had one to our new Tesla Destination Charger-so I went in to chat with the guest. Most Tesla owners are happy to stop and answer questions about their car, and this guy was a true fan of his car. Only owned two months, this was his first road trip and he used the car’s in-dash app to find us. We spoke for almost 15 minutes and while walking out of the office he offered me ride. In my overexcitement at my first ride in ANY Tesla, I blurted out “Hell yeah!” before I could filter my words.  … we got in and he showed me “startup” -there really is none, get in and it’a already on and ready to go, thanks to the key fob/RF interface. We took off and drove towards downtown, did a loop around a few blocks, stopping once so he could partially punch it to demonstrate it’s torque. WOW, is all I can say. Any car enthusiast that likes torque and to be launched hard like like a dragster needs to experience this. We came back south and when he got near the offramp I got really excited…

I would be surprised and let down at the same time. We didn’t get on the Freeway, instead he pulled over and asked me if I wanted to drive. “Of course I would”, I replied in a more Tesla-esque manner, this time.

Dunsmuir, PCT Trail Town Since Forever.

July 26, 2018 By Lodge

Dunsmuir may not be a designated official “Pacific Crest Trail Town”, but Dunsmuir has been the go-to stop for PCT hikers for a very long time. Dunsmuir, California is close to the trailhead, and many Dunsmuir businesses are quite friendly to PCT hikers; the Dunsmuir Lodge has quietly  been serving the needs of PCT hikers since 2005. We will give rides if at all possible. I personally know a few restaurant owners who love to have PCT hikers come in and visit.  I am grateful for all the PCT hikers that stay here, dine here and quietly write us up on Guthook and other sites, or even in books. While there are no known PCT reservations on the date of writing, we have had at least one room with hiker(s) every day for 9 days now (yes I count them and repeat guests daily!) PCT hikers know it’s much easier to get to Dunsmuir for a rest stop. Locals keep up the traditional “trail angel” work of shuttling PCT hikers to and from Ammirati’s Market in Castella-many do-I see and hear about it all the time!  We will keep the natural goodwill and karma going, and PCT hikers will continue to feel welcome in Dunsmuir. Dunsmuir is the type of friendly community that outsiders miss so much from yesteryear.

Newest Tesla Destination Charger In Dunsmuir!

July 25, 2018 By Lodge

We are proud to announce that the Dunsmuir Lodge has joined the Tesla Destination Charging Network!

Partnering with Tesla to bring the newest Tesla Destination Charger to Dunsmuir, California, we had two Tesla Chargers installed last November. Charging is free to overnight guests and $6 for drop-in charging while you wait. Manfredi’s is a short walk, with downtown Dunsmuir 10 minute’s walk. You can eat lunch at the Dunsmuir Brewery Works, Cornerstone Cafe, Wheelhouse restaurant, Pizza Factory, Burger Barn, or La Perla De Nayarit.

Tesla’s Destination Charging Network will help bring EV travel to the masses. We are seeing regular use a few times a month with more inquiries and notes on internet reservations every day!

We are proud to bring EV charging to Dunsmuir, California.

Merry Christmas from Dunsmuir!!!

December 25, 2017 By Lodge

Merry Christmas! This morning I would like to express my appreciation for ALL the wonderful guests we’ve had over the years. 2008-present has been a struggle financially, and recovery of the economy did not “trickle down” to Dunsmuir until 2017, and even then, not for all of us. It takes a long time for those pennies to fall from heaven, where, apparently, the wealthy, live… That being said; we learned the hard way to save for winter like it was our last summer, and treat every guest like they are regulars. my mother, Donna Parsons started this program of saving and was the gatekeeper of the money, because up till then, we’d just poured all our money into this place and had no real idea how to save. The lodge still needed upgrades, but we were in survival mode.
Through this I’ve never forgotten it’s you, our guests, who makes us great by your patronage. This year I’m starting to dream about what the Dunsmuir Lodge could become again. I haven’t done that since 2008. Maybe one day there could be a second story, pool, and restaurant!
This year we did a few much needed repairs ($$$), and are now working on some interior touches in our premium rooms (formerly called “renovated”). We will eventually put finishing touches in the standard rooms also. Probably the biggest news for Dunsmuir Lodge in 2017 is the new TESLA car charging station, with adapter for all other cars, too! Dunsmuir is firmly planted in the 21st century now, and ready for the electric highway!
Thanks to all the hard work of our housekeepers, who keep the rooms nice and clean for you, our hospitable and helpful office staff, and myself, you still love us and keep coming back year after year! We will keep striving to be the most comfortable place to stay for people visiting the area. Thanks to everyone who has ever stayed here for your support!
-Eric @ the Dunsmuir Lodge

Quick Easy Postcard View From The Dunsmuir Lodge

February 16, 2016 By Lodge

How to see the snow and a beautiful sunset at the same time halfway up Mount Shasta. Bunny Flat provides hiking, camping, and winter sports. Quick easy access and plowed roads means that anyone can get up there most days of the year. It will show up on most map apps and is at the top of Everitt Memorial Highway, going directly up the mountain out of the town of Mount Shasta (8 miles north). While the view has been similar to this picture lately, we are expecting snow off and on throughout February, so check when traveling through. Come stay at the Dunsmuir Lodge for free tour suggestions and directionsIMG_0671!

Dunsmuir Big Fish Program

August 1, 2014 By Lodge

The Dunsmuir Big Fish Program has started! In addition to the normal stocking from DFG, the town of Dunsmuir will be releasing more trout purchased separately for stocking within city limits. This area has long been a mecca to those seeking outdoor adventure via fly fishing, but the age old tradition of  a picnic by the river with [a non gender-specific parent] teaching the kids to fish. This year we are urging you to get back to nature by teaching your children to fish. You don’t have to be a pro, there are guides and enthusiastic shopkeepers who want to spread their knowledge of this  pastime; the old addage of “secret” fishing spots is dying.  There are many easy access points to the river in town – including places you won’t  have to hike down to the river, just drop a line from the bank. So there’s really no excuse to show the kids this year where their food comes from! Lazy fishers can also benefit from the large, easily-caught trout. The Dunsmuir Big Fish program encourages you to come to town this summer and take advantage of the extra large, extra stock of trout just waiting for you to come drop a line for them to chase…

Fishing Season is in full swing in Dunsmuir!

May 31, 2012 By Lodge

Guest Fisherman

Mike L., from San Francisco, fished the Upper Sacramento River today in Dunsmuir. He caught a 13″ Rainbow Trout. He’s pretty happy, and says he will return to do some more fishing.

Dunsmuir City is stocking the River with fish. Fish can be measured and tagged at Dunsmuir Hardware. At the end of the season there are prizes awarded in several categories.

It is looking like summer will be one of those “perfect” summers here in the mountains. Lots to do, excellent weather, lakes full, forests green, and fishing great. Come up and enjoy the clean air and water, not to mention the serenity all around.

Ski Park Open at Last!

February 1, 2012 By Lodge

We thought Winter would never come, but now it has arrived with a big snow storm and the Mt. Shasta Ski Park is officially open for business. Skiers are flocking to the mountain looking for their usual winter sports. We have ice skating and cross country skiing  at Castle Lake, and all the usual alpine sports on Mt. Shasta and in the Ski Park.

As we have noted in the past, the trip from the Dunsmuir Lodge to the Ski Park is 15-20 minutes. We have great restaurants here in Dunsmuir to enjoy for breakfast, lunches and dinner and the Dunsmuir Brewery often has music and of course, fine microbrews to enjoy, as well as excellent food.

Prices at the Lodge are reasonable all year round. If you are coming to ski, please let us know and show us your ski pass after the first day for a “skiers’ special” of 25% off for your stay.
